Volunteering

The economic benefits of volunteering are reflected in the activities undertaken by volunteers that would otherwise require funding from  private or government sources. Often times, these sources of funding are limited or unavailable. Volunteering is a vital supplement to limited resources, adding to the overall economic output of an organization, and reducing their reliance on funding sources. The social capital  produced from volunteering is an economic benefit for impoverished communities who lack resources and assistance, creating economic regeneration and a network of support within these communities. The social benefits of volunteering include building of more cohesive communities through the fostering of greater trust between citizens. This trust helps to develop a communities sense of solidarity and reciprocity, both of which are essential elements for stable communities. The individual benefits of volunteering include meeting new people and expanding social networks, gaining career experience, and the personal satisfaction attributed to the acts of giving of oneself and contributing to others welfare. There are many ways to volunteer with People's CORE.

Traditional Volunteering

Traditional volunteering does not require specific training or skills from the volunteers. People's CORE welcomes traditional volunteers to assist with our programs, administrations and events.

Skills-Based Volunteering

Skills-based volunteering refers to volunteers who are specifically trained in the area they are volunteering in, in contrast to traditional volunteering. Computer technology skills, graphic design skills, catering skills, research skills, and legal skills are all examples of skill-based volunteering. People's CORE welcomes skill-based volunteers to assist with our programs, administrations and events.

Micro-Volunteering

Micro-volunteering is when volunteers assist in small ways which do not require the commitment of scheduled volunteering, making it more convenient and flexible for the volunteer. Micro-volunteering is usually associated with skills-based and virtual volunteering. People's CORE welcomes micro-volunteers to assist with our programs, administrations and events.

Virtual Volunteering

Virtual volunteering, also known as "eVolunteering", "online volunteering", "cyber service", as well as other terms, refers to volunteer activities conducted offsite from the organization, through the use of computers and the Internet. Similar to telecommuting, virtual volunteering can be a form of micro- and skill-based volunteering. People's CORE welcomes virtual volunteers to assist with our programs, administrations and events.

Environmental Volunteering

Environmental volunteering refers to activities that contribute to responsible environmental care and use. Environmental volunteers conduct a wide range of activities such as environmental monitoring, ecological restoration, and environmental education.  People's CORE welcomes environmental volunteers to assist with our programs, administrations and events.
