Justice for Filipino American Veterans (JFAV)
JFAV was formed December 16, 1998 by People’s CORE. JFAV organizes and mobilizes the Filipino WWII veterans and the larger community to advocate for the rights and recognition of Filipinos who valiantly fought in WWII. JFAV aims to challenge and change an unjust law – the Rescission Act of 1946 – that singled out the Filipino soldiers out of 66 other nations who fought alongside the US during the war. The Rescission Act makes the Filipino solders ineligible to receive full benefits accorded to an American war veteran. This is not only a systematic and institutionalized form of racism and discrimination, but also a very clear violation of their civil and human rights. JFAV demands Full Equity for the Filipino American veterans as well as the veterans’ right to receive benefits while in the Philippines.
